Even in the ever-changing kaleidoscope of clubland some things are timeless and the fundamental rules never change. You can have talent but if you want success, you need passion, commitment, drive, flexibility and vision as well. Very few can tick all six traits off the list but those that can will stand the test of time and notch up not years but DECADES behind the decks
Allan Peach has followed the path of his idols Slipmatt, Carl Cox and Sasha by applying this winning formula. He DJs under the name of DJ Mystery for the old-skool, jungle and rave end of his repertoire and he does so at the highest level, supporting the aforementioned Slipmatt in Australia, no less. He uses 1210s or CDJs, and the Pioneer RMX 1000. As one half of Timeless & Mystery, he’s kept the vibes alive, playing with the biggest club nights in the business – Fantastia, Moondance and so on – drawing on almost two and a half decades worth of tracks to pull together his sets.
As if conquering the South of England isn’t enough, Peach – as DJ Mystery – is going international in 2014, heading to Australia with the one and only Slipmatt on January 18 for a World of Rave special. He’ll play three gigs on this mini-tour, the high point in his career after more than 20 years in the business.
But he’s constantly evolving his sound while keeping it real. Rave was his passion in the early 1990s – in the late 1990s, he was seduced by techno and now DJs as Mr Peach for techno, house and minimal nights.
The musical landscape changed forever in the late 1980s and early 1990s when electronic dance and destination clubbing took our weekends to another level. In 1990, aged 18, Mr Peach joined that revolution and now, nearly 25 years on, he has the experience, as well as the enthusiasm, to instinctively know what a night needs to go off big time. Being a master of many genres, there’s that flexibility within his sets to work with the energy level of the crowd, tune in and turn it up in many different ways.
Promoting comes naturally to the talented Mr Peach and, with the help of a carefully chosen crew, he runs club nights in Brighton, Southampton, Portsmouth and of course Bournemouth. Pure Klass is pure heaven for techno lovers and attracts some of the biggest names in the business. Dave Angel, no less, headlined the Pure Klass Christmas party in Bournemouth.
The Pure Klass team – Mr Peach, Craig, Lewis and Boyesey, with cheeky chappy Barry Vacher on promotion – are a force to be reckoned with, with two gigs in Bournemouth and two more in Bournemouth already scheduled for 2014. Mr Peach has lived in both towns and knows them inside out, both seaside towns with a holiday vibe, populated by serious clubbers as well as enthusiastic students and tourists.
Meanwhile, Conception is the night for drum & bass and jungle, with a heady concoction of old skool and nu skool beats and breaks. Like Pure Klass, Conception nights run throughout the South of England. As if that doesn’t keep him busy enough, Mr Peach is also on the hunt for new talent with record labels Kode5 – for future jungle & breaks – and Dekoded Records – for electronic dance music, house and funk.
The year may have started with weather akin to a monsoon but with Mr Peach flooding the South coast with stunning sets, awesome tracks and quality nights out, there’s no excuse to stay on your sofa on Saturdays any more.
DJ TIMELESS BIO.. I have been into the scene since 1991 and never looked back. It stemmed from hearing the likes of Shades Of Rhythm, The Prodigy, Rebel MC etc on the radio and then picking up a TV advertised compilation album which featured quite a few classic underground tracks such Manix, SL2 and Altern 8 on it. I then delved deeper into the scene after randomly finding an Amnesia House flyer in a carpark! This led to me heading down the local record shops and stumbling across live mixtapes, flyers and then listening to underground radio. Once I was old to get into clubs I was going to nights such as Dreamscape, Helter Skelter, Labrynth, Raindance, Pandemonium and venues such as The Sanctuary in Milton Keynes, Bagleys in London and The Palace in Luton to name a few. I initially started out as an MC, but made the gradual transition to DJ (even MC’ing whilst doing DJ’ing sets for a bit!)
From starting out as “a bit of a laugh” things slowly progressed from playing the odd house party to student unions and then raves/ clubs (one of my first “proper gigs” was for Bizzy B at one of his weekly Togetherness events at The Dungeons in East London). In 2007 I started an oldskool night with a friend called Retroactive which helped get me noticed on wider scale. We put on regular oldskool events in Luton and Bedford featuring guests such as DJ Snypa, Glenn Aston, Hardcore Massive and DJ Skie to name a few. Although its been in the last 2 years or so where things have really started happening for me where I am now playing out on average 1-3 times a month. One of my biggest breaks came when I was booked by Pandemonium in 2009 to play at their ”Andromeda” comeback gigs at The Warehouse in Birmingham (big thanks to DJ Pilgrim for recommending me and Paul for giving me the chance). The highpoint was playing back to back with Shock C on the main stage to a very busy warehouse!
To date events I have played for include Pandemonium, Fantazia, Tick Tock, Retroactive, Earthquake, Foundation, Rewind, Subliminal, Random Concept, Equinox/ Milwaukees Reunions, Gamma Funkula, The Source, Raiders Of The Oldskool, Rewind, Liquid Sessions and many more. I have also played abroad at Camouflage in New York, USA and Cheeky Mondays in Amsterdam, NL. I have been fortunate to have played on some big line-ups warming up and going on after the likes of Top Buzz, Trevor Fung, A-Sides, Doc Scott, Slipmatt, Digital, Bizzy B, Randall, Jack Frost,Stu Allan, Shades Of Rhythm and Fabio and have had MC’s such as Mad P, Bassman, Juiceman and Man Parris gracing some of my sets which has been a nice touch.
As for the future I will contiune to playing out up and down the UK plus have a few more overseas in the pipeline. I have also stepped back into the world of internet radio with a regular show on Raiders Of The Oldskool which will see me playing different styles such as Oldskool Hardcore, Rave, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Liquid Funk, Breaks and Acid House. I shall also be having the odd guest or 2 joining me! Massive thanks to everyone who has supported/ helped me along the way.
